Japanese Fried Oysters (Kaki Fry)

Busy day… hungry son… and this is what he asked for. I haven’t had these in FOREVER, so I’m glad he asked for them!

It was also my first try making these babies… I’m really glad that I didn’t mess them up. It would’ve been so sad to throw oysters away…

Check out the inside… yummmm!

Servings: 2 people

Ingredients

  • 12 fresh oysters
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • Canola oil
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 lemon cut into wedges for garnish

Fried Oyster Sauce

  • ketchup
  • dijon mustard
  • mayonnaise

Instructions

  • Wash oysters in salted water and dry with paper towels.
  • Lightly season oysters with salt and pepper.
  • Add canola oil into medium sized pan over medium-high heat.
  • In three separate dishes, add flour, beaten eggs, and panko. Keep them all separate!
  • Coat the oysters with flour, then dip into beaten eggs, and finally coat with panko bread crumbs
  • Add breaded oysters into oil, 6 at a time. Cook for about 1 to 2 minutes on one side, then turn over. When golden brown, remove oysters with tongs and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve with lemond wedges

Fried Oyster Sauce

  • Combine approx 4 tbsps of each ingredient in a bowl.
  • Taste and adjust!

Notes

You can also use tonkatsu sauce or tartar sauce to dip your oysters in! I didn't have either so I just made one up with the ingredients I have. It was delicious!
