Homemade Thai Iced Tea Recipe

Behold… the Thai Iced Tea!  Isn’t it gorgeous? It tastes even better than it looks!  Goodness, if there was such a thing as a “tea crush” I’m heavy crushin’ right now!

This is my drink of choice when dining in a Thai restaurant (it’s also my favorite bubble tea flavor! #nomnomnom), so naturally, I tried replicating it at home. Howeverrr… I only had black tea bags on hand, and I *think* I came pretty close (not pictured… it was THAT sad), but my try #1 was lacking the mesmerizing orange color and the unique aroma that Thai teas are famous for.  #sadface

Then I learned…

… to make Thai Iced Tea like they serve in Thai restaurants, you must use AUTHENTIC Thai tea mixes (uh duh, Carmen).

Thai tea mixes are dyed with yellow food coloring, giving its bright orange color… aaand it has a yummy vanilla aroma to it.

Sooo… to get the gorgeous orange color and delicious aroma & flavors I recommend using Pantai Norasingh Thai Tea Mix. It’s the brand I used for this recipe and I am THRILLED at how perfect my tea came out! I picked mine up at a local Asian market… but you can get the same exact one from Amazon without even getting off your butt.

Ingredients (serves 4 – in my house, this serves one)

Instructions

  1. Bring water to boil and add Thai Tea Mix. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Boil tea for about 3-5 minutes and remove from heat.
  2. Steep tea for at least 30 minutes (I wait at least 2 hours because Thai tea tastes sooo much better when the flavor is super concentrated!) and allow it to cool.
  3. Strain tea leaves using a fine mesh strainer or tea sock and set finished tea aside to cool.
  4. Fill glasses with ice and pour Thai tea leaving room to add 2 tablespoons each of sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk.

I make double (even triple) this recipe at a time so I always have a couple of days worth of Thai Iced Tea chilling in the fridge! I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

Yummy Idea: Add some tapioca pearls and make delicious Thai Milk bubble tea like we just did!

Enjoy! xoxo
